Owasso Animal Chiropractic
Stefanie Jones, D.C, IVCA certified animal chiropractor
As a horse enthusiast and animal lover, it was a natural progression for me to recieve training and certification in animal chiropractic after graduation from chiropractic college. I was educated at the Options for Animals school in Wellsville, KS (animalchiro.com) and was certified by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association (IVCA.org). I have 3 dogs and 2 horses of my own who all recieve chiropractic care on a regular basis. Chiropractic care restores natural movement and function, reduces pain and muscle spasm, stimulates the immune system and enables the animal to perform at their optimum potential.

What type of animals can recieve chiropractic care?
Practically any animal with a spine can receive care. The most common animals that I see are horses, dogs and cats. However, other farm animals, exotic pets and even zoo animals are likely recipients for chiropractic care.
Dr. Jones firmly believes that all animals should undergo regular spinal evaluations within their first year, as this is the time when the animals frame and spine grow the most. Ideally the younger the animal the easier it is to correct. This is true prevention.
Why should my animal recieve chiropractic care?
Why chiropractic care instead of or as a supplement to traditional veterinary care or physiotherapy?
Chiropractic is one of the safest treatments available. I can help you or your animal achieve optimal health through restoring natural movement and function, reducing pain and muscle spasms, stimulating immune function and enabling the individual to perform at their optimum potential. All of these things are accomplished without the use of drugs, surgery or other invasive procedures. Which gives you not only piece of mind but quicker results and less healing time.
Chiropractic treatments have been proven to help both humans and animals
Decrease arthritis and pain in joints Relieve pain from many areas of the body Reduce stiffness and spasms Increase the range of motion Improved energy and immune system
Animal chiropractic
In this day and age, many people think that in many respects, we’ve just gone too far. Animal chiropractors, animal behaviorists, animal psychologists etc etc…it wasn’t that long ago when animals could just be animals.
However, like in many aspects of our life and society, especially medicine, we are progressing and learning. Many people want to incorporate these new ways of approaching health care and new treatments.
Studies and clinical trials by mainstream medical researchers support the health benefits of spinal manipulation and animal chiropractic care is becoming increasingly popular. Human, canine and equine chiropractic thwart impending musculoskeletal ailments, slow the degenerative processes and improve health and well-being.
How does chiropractic care work?
A chiropractor is a doctor that specializes in the health of the nervous system and how it interacts with the brain and body in order to promote wellness and vitality. The focuses of the chiropractor are the nerve receptors, which can be thought of as sensors in the body. These sensors detect the world around and within us and send messages about it to our body. When there is an injury or restricted motion in our joints these sensors tell our body to make adaptations to balance out these impairments. These adaptations can be good or bad. Chiropractic adjustments help to correct the bad adaptations so the body can properly heal itself.
Dr. Jones' belief is that when the joints of the body are in proper alignment and the nerves are healthy, information can be sent from the brain to the body in a superior manner, allowing for healing to take place.
A typical chiropractic treatment includes high velocity, low amplitude thrusts to specific joints (these are called adjustments), muscle therapies and neurologic re-education to positively affect the receptors involved. Chiropractors focus on the whole body and its well being.

How often should my pet recieve care?
The frequency of care depends on each individual animal's need. Typically, four to five adjustments will be necessary, but be assured a care program will be established after the first visit. Animals recover very rapidly as a rule, but older animals and more serious problems take more time. Age and physical condition, extent of damage, duration of the problem, and owner cooperation are all factors in 'get well' time. The key is taking the first step and making the first appointment: it may make the difference between illness and health.

It should be stressed that chiropractic, in no way, should be thought of as a replacement for conventional veterinary medicine, but rather as a valid, concurrent, complimentary treatment procedure for many back and lameness problems. And as with any health related problems or conditions that your horse may experience, it is important that your veterinarian be contacted initially so that he or she can assess your horse for any underlying medical condition that could be causing similar symptoms.
